CURIOSITY
Watercolor, 2017 (16inx20in)
I had always loved watercolors, but painting with them, I discovered, was far harder than I had assumed. Using pen for details in the fur and creating a more solid shape in the painting, I gained new skills with both watercolor paints and color theory. Initially, I had chosen the painting due to the colors that would be used, but creating something lifelike without vibrancy proved difficult. I found ways to create texture using an unfamiliar medium and continued upon my passion for painting nature scenes.

THE LADY
Acrylic, 2017 (18inx24in)
I took on this painting, inspired by the older look of this piece and the opportunity to paint a portrait. I love drawing people, but I found that painting them is another challenge in itself. I unfortunately struggled with problems with the paint in this piece and was going to trash it, but with help from my teacher, I found ways to complete the painting. I enjoy this piece because it is an example of the work and dedication I have to put into acrylic painting and reminds me of the struggles I have had, knowing that I can push through with some creativity and innovation. I titled this piece "The Lady" due to the fact that everyone referred to it as such, and the name stuck.

HAWK'S HUNT
Acrylic, 2015 (16inx20in)
This painting was the first painting I did in my high school career of art. I wanted a challenge, and with my newfound passion for detail, I took on one of the most difficult pieces of art I've ever completed. Outside of technical expertise, I have a love for nature and animals, and through my passions, created this piece, which was displayed at the Imagination Celebration and the Junior Art Exhibit in the Festival of the Arts. In the latter, this painting also placed first out of all freshman paintings in the exhibit.

ORCHIDS AND VASES
Acrylic, 2016 (16inx20in)
Since I had begun taking art in junior high, I had always wanted to do this painting, and with the skills gained from my teacher, I was able to pull off a vibrant and detailed piece. This painting was displayed at the Festival of the Arts Junior Exhibit in 2017 and made an appearance in the brochure. I absolutely loved the difficulties and challenges that I experienced through creating this painting because they have taught me much about what I enjoy in my paintings and the techniques used to create them.

CITY LIFE
Acrylic, 2017 (18inx24in)
The combination of skills that I have gained over the past few years and what I have realized that I want to create have resulted in one of my favorite pieces. My teacher initially rejected the idea of this painting, saying it was too detailed, but I resisted. This gave me a passion and reason to complete this painting with the amount of time and effort it took. I deviated from my favorite subjects of people and animals and found the risk well worth the result.
